In Vienna we had quiet interesting and unique tour. It is called Polawalk. So please let me introduce you to  the co-founder of Polawalk; one of the best guide’s I have ever met.;  Gilbert. So if you are interested in  walking around Vienna with poloroid camera, you will be interested in this interview. We had twelve stops. It took 2,5 hour. It was an orientation from a local which we really enjojed. Just do it ! Now Gilbert’s turn to tell . Just Read ! And than probably you would like to book !

How did this idea come to you Gilbert ? Could you please tell about the history of Polawalk ?

My colleague Thomas offered Polaroid workshops. I attended them because we were working on some other idea. We offered them a couple of times and saw that people actually booked it. This workshop was about which Polaroids cameras could still be used and what essentials to know to make good pictures. After the theoretical part we went out to try out the learned things together. The walking-part was the part people liked most. I was fascinated by souvenir-Polaroids that Thomas took in Bucharest and displayed right when coming into the apartment where he and his girlfriend live. I liked the idea of a tangible, selfmade and unique souvenir (a Polaroid) that you bring back form your holiday and put on your wall at home. Well I added 1+1 and said: “Thomas, why don’t we reduce it to the walking-part and offer this to visitors to Vienna?” That’s what we still do.

So what is your profession ? Is it related to this idea ?
I studied business and specialized in project management. For a long time I knew that I want to do something independently and entrepreneurially. After working in different jobs I knew that I actually wanted to do something else and had to move on sooner or later. The timing and the idea were good and I found an excellent co-founder. + As I said on the tour: I don’t consider myself as a photographer. 😉
Thomas studied business and specialized in marketing. He’s using instant film since 2010 and got quite addicted. He also likes to shoot other analog cameras.

I think this is a social entrepreneur cause you help marketing of Vienna brand, what can you tell about this ?
It is right that we offer one of the few really creative and engaging activities (for tourists) in Vienna. I would say that most visitors don’t get the chance to meet and interact with locals of the city they are visiting. For our concept the interaction and the guide are very important. Yes, it makes me happy if people say that the tour was their highlight of their stay. This means that they had a better impression of the city with our tour then without it. In the end people have something special (self made) that stays and to show friends/family. I personally hope our work helps a bit that Vienna is known as a great place to spend the holidays.
How many people attended until now ? Any interesting memory about the attendees
About 300 in 2014, we haven’t done the statistics of 2015 yet. Well, everybody and every tour is different. In general our customers are really nice and kind people. I’m often surprised by how adventurous they are. Trying some local food at the market, climbing on things to come closer to their subject, asking people to pose for their picture and so on. I like the effort they put into their photos 🙂
